About Me

Brooks Salloum (they/he) is a double bassist, music educator, and musical artist based in San Diego, California. Brooks attended the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music and holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in double bass performance. They have performed with a variety of orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz bands, and contemporary artists throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and Southern California. As a music educator, Brooks teaches low strings lessons and sectionals, and has conducted youth ensembles in major organizations such as MYCincinnati and the San Diego Youth Symphony.

About Me

Performance

Performance

Brooks is an avid member of Southern California’s freelance music performance scene as a double bass and electric bass player, having performed with local ensembles of a wide range of genres. Notably, as a classical bass player, Brooks is the principal bassist of the Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra, organizes the Anemone String Quartet, and has performed with ensembles such as City Ballet and the Idyllwild Academy Orchestra. As a jazz musician, Brooks is frequently hired for private and public events with award winning musicians like Kaylee Daugherty, Nathan Hubbard, and Kat Shoemaker, and has performed at some of San Diego’s top music venues; Lou Lou’s Jungle Room, The Jazz Lounge, and Music Box. While in Cincinnati, Brooks performed with CCM’s Philharmonia Orchestra, La Formula Big Band, Queen City Cabaret, QuinTango, the Jen Grantham quartet, Wild Carrot, Moon Cruiser, and more top knotch ensembles. Brooks can be hired to play in classical (chamber or orchestral); pit orchestras for musicals, operas, or ballets; jazz and latin ensembles; cover or original bands; recording projects; or solo performances of original music. Teaching

Teaching 〰️

Brooks has taught private and group lessons and ensembles since 2019. Currently teaching for nonprofit organizations Villa Musica and Miller Music Academy, Brooks leads string ensembles across the city of San Diego. They conducted after school elementary orchestra for the San Diego Youth Symphony’s Community OPUS project from 2023 to 2025, and also served as a sectional coach and substitute conductor for the San Diego Youth Symphony. Brooks worked as a teaching artist at the non-profit youth orchestra, MYCincinnati from 2019-2023 in Ohio where they also taught bass sectionals for local high schools, was a band coach for Girls Rock Cincinnati and School of Rock, and worked as a Disciplinary Assistant in the Instrumental Music Department of Kentucky’s Governor’s School for the Arts in 2022. Brooks is now available for online and San Diego based in-person private lessons and group coaching.
